Will Numbing Cream Affect a Tattoo?

Tattoos has become very popular among the youngsters today. Inking tattoos is a very painful procedure and the degree of pain depends on the body part it’s being inked on as well as on the size of the tattoo. Numbing creams can be an option for those who want to have a tattoo, but are too worried of the pain involved in the process.

Numbing Cream Affect a Tattoo :

When using numbing creams, people are too concerned whether Numbing creams can affect the quality of the tattoos or not. Answer to this is, that generally numbing creams do not effect tattoo but it also depends on the quality of the numbing cream you are using. The bottom line is that it means a quality product will ease the pain without interfering with the tattooing process or tattoo quality and that without any side effects.

Numbing creams are available in two forms: - Gel/cream or spray that is applied on the skin before the tattoo session starts and the other one is applied on the skin when the skin is broken, to penetrate the epidermis. Water based numbing cream are ideal to glycerin based creams, as the water based numbing creams are not slippery hence it’s more comfortable for the tattoo artist to work on your body. It’s important to let your tattooing artist know which numbing cream you’re using. A commonly used numbing cream Emla numbing cream is not ideal for tattooing because it is glycerin based and therefore causes the skin to be slippery during the tattoo session.

One such product that is recommended for safe use during tattooing is Dr.Numb®. It is a water based numbing cream and is effective because of its primary ingredient, Lidocaine - a powerful topical anesthetics that blocks your nerve endings, making it impossible for them to pass pain signals to your brain.

You simply have to apply Dr.Numb® about an hour before, on the skin area that is to be tattooed. The numbing effect remains for hour and you will hardly feel any pain while the needles pierce you skin. It is recommended as this cream does not influence the quality of the tattoos. It is very important that you always use numbing creams with caution because there can be consequences if not used correctly.

Before applying your numbing cream you should wash the area that is going to be tattooed with soap and water and let it dry. Apply the cream to area that has to be inked on and always wear gloves to rub the cream on your skin. A layer of approximately 1mm thick should be covering the skin that has to be tattooed. You should wait at least 45 minutes to 1 hour before you begin your tattoo. It’s very important for you to know that you should not leave numbing cream for more than an hour on your skin.
