Which is more Hurting – Laser Hair Removal or Bikini Wax

Summer is the ‘beach season’ and we’re sure you must be all set to dive into blue waters and flaunt your perfect beach body. But wait, are those unwanted hair stopping you from wearing your favourite swimsuit or the bikini you like? Well there are many ways to get rid of unwanted body hair. But the big debate is bikini wax vs. laser hair removal.

Although, bikini waxing is painful and temporary, but some people prefer it over laser hair removal. On the other hand, some people want to get rid of unwanted hair permanently so they opt for laser hair removal. Which one is better, and which treatment hurts more?

In this article, we’re going to compare the two hair removal techniques, followed by pros and cons of both the hair removal methods.

How does it work?

Bikini Wax is very common hair removal method that works by ripping the hair out of its roots from the skin. For this, you need a hot wax/cold wax and waxing strips to get rid of hair. It removes the hair right away. On the other hand, laser hair removal works by using Photothermolysis technique, which matches a specific wavelength of light and pulse duration to damage the hair follicle at its roots. However, this is different from IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment. It does not remove hair right away. Laser technique removers 10 percent hair on every appointment and sadly you can't wax while you are into a laser hair removal treatment.

How much does it cost?

Bikini wax is a cheap hair removal method. A Brazilian wax tops out around $80. Laser hair removal has a full series of Brazilian laser hair removal sessions, which cost around is $2,000. Moreover, you need to go for a sitting every four weeks for at least six months to get full results from a laser treatment.

How long does it last?

In bikini wax, generally, hair will become visible again after about two weeks. It’s around a fortnight that new growth sprouts from the follicle. This also varies depending on your age, gender, hormone levels, genetics, and even change in seasons. However, laser hair removal shows temporary results after your first treatment. You will find your skin silky smooth and hair free. But it takes a series of treatments to finally damage the hair follicle and see permanent results.

Does it hurt?

Waxing hurts as it rips hair from the roots. So, it will hurt every time, no matter how long you've been doing it. But laser hair removal does not hurt as much as waxing and it is quicker than waxing (but a longer permanent treatment).

Are there any side effects to the treatment?

Waxing often causes redness and inflammation on sensitive skin. The inflammations can also turn into pimples or larger breakouts. It can also cause ingrown hair, which may become infected (not necessarily though). On the other hand, Laser Hair Removal has minimal side effects. To avoid burns, specialists at Dr.Numb® advise not to expose the treated area to the sun two weeks prior to their session.
